REVAMP YOUR LIVINGROOM
ON A SHOESTRING
Finally, it is the last weeks of winter and I must admit I am counting down the days until spring bursts onto the scene. I really can’t wait for longer, lighter days, blossoms and colour.

However, August need not be colourless and grim when you can give your rooms an effortless makeover on a budget.

Gone are the days when designer inspiration cost a bundle and the thought of making over your living area or bedroom made your piggybank frown. With just a little planning and of course, knowing the right place to shop, you can have all of the colour and energy of spring to enliven any room in your home.

I absolutely love designer pieces. I love it even more when I can get that expensive Luxe look for less. There are so many fabulous homeware stores to shop, both online and locally there is no excuse to let the end-of-winter blues get you down. So let’s check out some of my favourite ways to add some warmth and energy to your home.

LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEAS FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR SOFA

So it is Christmas Eve day and you still don't know what to get that difficult to buy for Brother-in-law or you just got the call your girlfriend is dropping by and you are sure she is going to give you a present and you haven't shopped for her - Yikes!

Gifts you can Print to the rescue (or SMS, email, Facebook or Whatsapp).

Benefits

Take advantage of purchasing eGift cards or experiences by instantly and electronically sending the gift to your gift recipient.  This is better than buying a plastic gift card because you can always reprint an email code if you lose the piece of paper and now with the new legislation, most gift cards and vouchers have a 3 year expiry or in the case of www.noexpiry.com just what it says ... no expiry.

I don't know which to buy

If you hesitate to use gift cards because you don't know which one to buy.  My advice is get something universal.  At www.giftcardstore.com.au you can buy a virtual Mastercard which can be used anywhere Mastercard/Visa is accepted.

Perhaps a voucher for an experience from www.RedBalloon.com.au is the ticket.  Your giftee can choose from any of the experiences on their site and use the voucher towards the price of a larger, more decadent experience.

Where do you source these fabulous, in-the-nick-of-time gifts?

Here are my recommendations

SHOPPING

WHAT IS YOUR SHOPPING PERSONALITY?

Did you know there are types of shoppers and each has a strength and a strategy we can all learn from?

Actually, understanding the type of shopper you are will show you how to maximise the benefits. Whether you are shopping for big ticket items or doing your grocery shopping, how you approach it will be influenced by your shopping personality.

We have identified nine personalities with four influences.  Let's go through the influences and then the personality checklist to see how you shape up.

Journey or Destination

Some shoppers love to browse, to plan, to research and to budget. For them, shopping is about the journey.  Some even like to just browse and fill their wishlist or shopping cart without a purchase and it is fulfilling.

Alternatively, for others it is all about the purchase.  They prefer the destination.

Emotion or Strategy

Being an emotional shopper means that you enjoy shopping, you purchase based on how your purchase makes you feel.  You purchase brands you love and are loyal to.

Strategic shoppers are more invested in getting the right item, research, facts and often price (or value).

Let's walk through each of the personality types and match your style.

Distracted Bargain Hunter Shopper – More Chase Than Conquer
You love to browse the catalogues, online stores, bargains, specials and sales and often commence the checkout process inspired but you rarely complete the transaction and move on to something else. You love to see what is new and what is available.

This shopper enjoys the Journey and Emotion.

Online Shopper – Shopping In No Extra Time
Letting your fingers do the walking online is your preferred shopping. You find yourself a bit overwhelmed in the mega shopping centres. They are so big it is sometimes like being in a casino… can't find the exit and you lose the concept of time passing.

Having the thrill of the parcels arriving and opening them to find fabulous goodies (and if it is a great online store, they send some extra goodies too). You love the accessibility of shopping online, from your phone on the train, in bed at night, whilst cooking dinner. It is no extra time while you multitask, efficient and you can do it in your PJs.

This shopper is focused on Destination and Emotion

Comparison Shopper

- You Hate Paying Too Much For Your Purchases
You are a shopper with a mission. You know what you want and you are determined to get the best value for your money. You do your research. You compare price and value.

You use comparison shopping sites, read reviews and once decided you look for the next sale season where you can bag that bargain.  You are tactical and methodical and suspend emotion until you celebrate the victory completing the transaction.

Now don’t be confused this is not a price based transaction. Not necessarily. This is about getting the most value. As an example I have paid slightly more for a washing machine but it was delivered free, installed and they took the old washing machine with them at no additional cost. Now that is Value!

This shopper is focussed on the Journey and Strategy

Loyalty Shopper -You Know What You Like and Stick With It
You know what you like and you stick with it.
You have favourite tried and tested stores and that is where you shop. Sometimes you pay full price and sometimes you use the loyalty vouchers you get from those stores.  You know when this store goes on sale and love getting something you really liked but didn’t buy when you first saw it.

This shopper is focussed on Destination and Strategy

Impatient Shopper - Need It Now At Any Price
You love a brand, you love the latest and if you love it you buy it at any price. You are an early adopter to trends, fashion, tech or whatever is hot! Your motto is Instant gratification takes too long. You madly track your online purchases to see where they are at every courier stop. You may even have an array of clothing in your wardrobe unworn with tags still attached.

This shopper is all about Destination and Emotion.

Planner Shopper

– Shopping Calendar Is Your Best Friend
You love a sale and your motto is why would I pay full retail? You know when the sales are and you run a list of what you need to buy at each of the upcoming retail sales. You may even be so organized you have a gift chest with fabulous goodies you purchased on sale for friends and family gifts in advance.

You are strategic about getting value for your money.

This shopper is focussed on the Journey and Strategy

No Fuss Shopper – Just Make It Painless and Quick
Shopping is a necessary evil and not considered enjoyable. Buying a gift, some clothes or something from the hardware store must be done. If it is quick and painless, all the better. The majority of these types of shoppers I have come across are more often than not, male.

Need I say this shopper is all about Destination and Strategy

Thrift And Thrill Shopper– I Will Line Up To Get That Deal
You love a bargain, you love the hunt for a bargain and you will do almost anything to close that deal.

Buying new items may not even be your style of shopping, some of my Thrift and Thrill friends love to purchase used or vintage items and love to recycle pre-loved items. For you it is less about the brand name tag than the price tag. You most likely buy generic brands including your homewares, grocery and clothing and love to get the very best deal possible.

This shopper is focussed on Journey and Strategy

Gambler's Choice Shopper
You have a little of most of the above shopping categories in your personality.

It may be situational. I am a No Fuss Shopper when it comes to buying petrol. I roll up, pump and pay. I don’t think much past that.

I do have the Thrift and Thrill inclination particularly in grocery shopping.
I am a Planner, I comparison shop mainly tech and sometimes a girl just needs to strut into Prada and get those sunglasses! Yes, I am Impatient too.

The important thing is what we can learn from each type of shopper. After all life is too short to not make the most of how we spend our time and where we spend our money.
